The Trouble Begins: A Box of Unfortunate Events, Books 1-3 (The Bad Beginning; The Reptile Room; The Wide Window) (2001 - hc, box set)

For better or worse the movie, based on books 1 -3, and starring Jim Carey, is coming out soon. If it is even 1/4 as entertaining as these books it should do well

The Situation Worsens: A Box of Unfortunate Events, Books 4-6 (The Miserable Mill; The Austere Academy; The Ersatz Elevator) (2002 - hc, box set)
The Dilmea Deepens: A Box of Unfortunate Events, Books 7-9 (The Vile Village; The Hostile Hospital; The Carnivorous Carnival) (2003 - hc, box set)
Dawn of the Dead (2004 - pb, 104 pages)
IDW Publishing: Steve Niles

Underworld (2003 - pb, 144 pages)
IDW Publishing: Kris Oprisko

Dreamcatcher (2001 - pb, 620 pages)
Pocket Books: Stephen King

This has one of my favorite Stephen King creatures, the "shit weasels".

The Traveling Vampire Show (2001 - pb, 400 pages)
Dorchester Pub Co: Richard Laymon

This is such a fun book! A Traveling Vampire Show is coming to town. Are they for real?
Richard Laymon could be his own category in fiction. Like Steven King, Laymon (1947-2001) has written a ton of books, and the ones I have read just keep getting weirder. The title above, Island and then Bite!. Each has it's moments when you just cannot believe someone actually had the balls to write this stuff. Politically correct he ain't!

Black House (2001 - hc, 640 pages)
Random House: Stephen King and Peter Straub

Sequel to The Talisman. Also has aspects of the Gunslinger/Dark Tower series. Dark, brooding and scary.

The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy & Other Stories (1997 - hc, 115 pages)
William Morrow & Co: Tim Burton

This is a great collection of twisted poems and very short stories by film maker, Tim Burton. I got this book for a 5th grade teacher who is going to read it to her class.

The Mammoth Book of Vampire Stories by Women (2001 - pb, 512 pages)
Carroll & Graf: Compiled by Ingrid Pitt

An autographed copy can also be ordered from Ingrid Pitt's website, pittofhorror.com. I just received my copy autographed copy a couple days ago!

"This Mammoth anthology, unified only by subject and the authors' gender, is broad in scope and very lively. Victorian "sensation" author Mary Elizabeth Braddon puts in an appearance with "Good Lady Ducayne," in which a young woman becomes a companion to a strange older woman whose previous companions have fallen ill under mysterious circumstances. In Yvonne Navarro's "One among Millions," a vampire stalks a young mother, wanting her to be the mother of his children." - Booklist
